Mobile Hazardous Support System (MHSS)
Task:
- Provide users with a robust tele-operated system to support various hazardous operations
at Kennedy Space Center.
Objective:
- Utilize mobile robot technology to assist in evaluation and mitigation of hazardous
situations.
- Transfer component technologies developed by NASA Research Center KSC operations.
Design Features:
- High Mobility to climb stairs and avoid obstacles.
- Two on-board camera and a microphone / speaker for remote video and audio.
- Dexterous robotics arm with gripper and special purpose tooling.
- Tele-operated capability via cable tether or radio.
Benefits:
- Eliminate human exposure to hazardous situations during initial site survey and
mitigation.
- Potential reduction in the number of HAZMAT and SCAPE suit operations required.
- Mobile robot could assist in the following areas
- Security
- Hazardous material spills
- Safety monitoring fire and rescue operations
